Abstract Landscapes

The first abstract landscape painting I did was in response to a particularly vivid dream of flying through bare, deciduous tress in March. The sky was a clear, infinite blue, and the trees were bathed in a golden light. It was Spring-skiing conditions and the flying was incredible! I sought to convey the intensity of that feeling through my work.

I also chose to use a medium I hadn't touched in a while: oils! The oil paint, when diluted with mineral spirits (heady stuff), went on in broad, transparent strokes of colour. The result was intoxicating! I played with the same technique on canvas, to a lesser result. My heart was captured by the light properties of the mylar! These earlier works definitely led into my recent series: Escape to Summer.
