Escape to Summer is a collection of works inspired by my love of Summer beauty. The subject matter is of open, expansive landscapes that elevate the spirit and draw one into the joy of Summer. Loose, expressive strokes of acrylic paint on mylar create beautiful banners of light and shifting colour.
I choose to work on mylar because of it’s smooth, soft surface and it’s fabulous light qualities. The acrylic paint applied in washes of colour bonds with the substrate, shifting and changing with ambient light creating living tapestries that interact with their environment.
Mylar is a beautiful surface, soft, translucent, resistance-free… every brush stroke counts. Its light qualities are like those of white, diaphanous silk, yet it is incredibly durable and strong. Light plays wonderfully on it and through it.
